| With 85 per cent of Canadians
living within 200 miles of the American border, there is little doubt that
Canadians are inexorably connected to the United States. It is my premise
that Canada is drifting more toward the United States in terms of social
policy issues. This policy shift means that we may begin to look more like our American Neighbours, for better and for worse. |

United States looks like from the edge, just south of the largest undefended
border in the world. The project is the result of several trips to the States
bordering Canada, from Maine to Alaska.

"Theres
a poignancy to it yet also a lingering sense of a slowly twisting knife
in your gut" "I can say without reservation, that I have
rarely seen work as dynamic and original. It is a major, even dazzling,
undertaking of enormous artistic, sociological and political dimensions"
